Define the failure first
A minor electrical part and a major refrigerant-side failure should not be treated as the same repair decision. Start with what failed, why it failed and whether other major components remain healthy.
Consider the house around the unit
Sizing, ducts, airflow, insulation and humidity control shape replacement value. A new outdoor unit cannot correct every distribution or building-envelope problem by itself.
Compare complete costs
Ask for the repair scope, expected remaining risks and complete replacement scope. Financing can change timing, but it should not hide the total project cost or the reasons for the recommendation.
