Observe the whole setup
Look for a stable pump, free-moving float, intact power connection and a discharge line that appears secure. Do not reach into water around energized or damaged equipment.
A cycle should start and stop cleanly
Follow the manufacturer’s safe test guidance or schedule service. Humming without moving water, rapid cycling or failure to stop all deserve attention.
Backup is a separate decision
Battery and water-powered backup options depend on the home, power, water service and expected inflow. A backup still needs inspection and testing.
